Easy Read version of the report from Scotland’s first Disabled People’s Cabinet Forum, highlighting barriers, lived experience and priorities for system change.
Mental health and social care services
They talked about mental health and social care services not being the same in every part of Scotland.
People said that there were:
- long waiting times
- not enough available support
- services not working together
This meant that they:
- became more stressed
- had less independence
- were unable to cope with everyday life
before they were able to get help.
The support people get depends on where in Scotland they live.
Many disabled people have to spend a lot of their money on social care.
This means they often do not have enough money to spend on other things they need.
People wanted services to be the same all over Scotland.
They wanted
- disabled people to get help earlier
- public services to understand disability better
- more funding for organisations that support disabled people
