Number who can attend a wedding
Scotland follows a COVID-19 protection level system (0-4).
The maximum number of people who can attend a wedding ceremony or reception indoors or outdoors in a public or staffed exclusive-use venue depends on the level for the area the venue is in.
Public and exclusive-use venues include places like:
- hotels and restaurants
- places of worship
- registration offices
- community centres and village halls
- exclusive use private-hire venues like castles and stately homes that are managed and have venue staff to ensure this guidance is followed
There are some different rules you need to know about if you are planning your wedding at a private home or garden.
You can check the protection level for an area using the postcode checker. When planning your wedding, you should keep in mind that protection levels can change at short notice.
Maximum number who can attend a wedding at each COVID-19 level
The maximum number of people who can attend a wedding ceremony or reception inside or outside at a public or staffed exclusive-use venue is:

These numbers are the same whether the event is being held indoors, for example in a function suite or closed marquee, or outdoors in an open-sided marquee or gazebo.
