Items and actions

  1. An ad-hoc meeting of the COVID-19 Nosocomial Review Group (CNRG) was arranged. Group discussion included current COVID epidemiology, winter pressures, and the pre-release of a UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) paper.
  2. CNRG were presented with the latest COVID-19 situation sitrep for w/e 23 October. It was noted that the changes to testing are impacting on reporting and interpretation of COVID-19. This is an important consideration in the interpretation of nosocomial COVID-19 and ward cluster epidemiology.
  3. The number of clusters has been fluctuating since an increase at the beginning of October though this was a relatively small increase in comparison to previous surges.
  4. PHS noted that National Record Scotland (NRS) data on attributable mortality indicates this is significantly lower now.
  5. CNRG discussed and reviewed the current guidance in place for healthcare settings.
  6. CNRG members discussed the UK Health Security Agency Paper The role of respirators and surgical masks in mitigating the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in healthcare settings: An overview of evidence’ prepublication.
