If you are an existing NHS Scotland dental professional who has been clinically ‘stood down’ due to the cessation of routine dental practice, your knowledge and clinical skills will still be very welcome in supporting the delivery of healthcare during this emergency situation.

You can support the NHS family by stepping forward to participate in the delivery of healthcare. Please see the NHS Education for Scotland website for registration of interest. Even though you are already employed and perhaps furloughed, you should still go to the website and register and identify yourself as a current healthcare professional. The website will channel you accordingly and your skills can then be utilised appropriately. The portal is managed by NHS Education for Scotland, who will forward your details onto the relevant board as indicated in your preferences. Deployment of applicants within health and social care will be arranged by the local NHS Board.

Currently, however, the UK regulator for the dental team (General Dental Council) does not have powers to establish temporary registration and so it is unable to support returning or recently retired dental professionals into the clinical dental workforce.
