Help Scotland fight COVID-19

Updated: 7 May 2020

Thank you for showing an interest in returning to work and helping NHS Scotland fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The health and social care accelerated recruitment process received over 18,000 applications. The response has been in such impressive numbers, that the Scotland Cares campaign has now been paused to new applicants.

Everyone who registered their interest through the recruitment portal before 30 April 2020 will be processed. If you haven’t heard from NHS Scotland yet please be assured that they will be in touch as soon as possible.

While the current public health emergency remains unprecedented. We recognise the impact on our health and social care services may be prolonged and additional support may needed again in the near future.

This site will remain and be updated with the necessary links and guidance relevant to where you can offer support to the COVID-19 pandemic response.

Temporary emergency registration for healthcare professionals

The Regulatory Bodies have written to all registrants who have left the professional register in the last five years (three years for pharmacists and allied health and care professions), and so you may have already been contacted. However they can only do so to your last registered postal or email addresses. If you have not been contacted and are able to offer your services working in the NHS on a temporary basis then please visit your professional regulator’s website to find out more.

Nurses and midwives

To join the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) COVID-19 temporary register, please visit the NMCs website and complete their application form.

Doctors

You can find out more about temporary registration for doctors who left the register or gave up their licence to practise in the last three years, on the GMC website.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians

You can find out more about temporary registration for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who have left the GPhC register, please on their website.

Allied Health Professionals

You can find out more about temporary registration for allied health professionals who have left the register in the last three years on the HCPC website.

Healthcare scientists

You can find out more about temporary registration for health care scientists who have left the register in the last three years on the HCPC website.

We’re asking you to help us fight COVID-19. The virus will put a huge demand on both the NHS and social services, but you can make a real difference.

If you’ve left a professional register in recent years, are a registered healthcare practitioner but not currently working in NHSScotland, are already employed as a healthcare professional but your normal business has been suspended, or you are looking for opportunities in social services then please register on the national portal.

Students

If you are a student in one of these professions your university will be in contact with you and further information can be found under your relevant profession.
