Attendees and apologies

The meeting was chaired by the Scottish Government, with representation from:

  • SQA

  • SFC

Items and actions

The Scottish Government provided an update noting that:

  • the DFM would likely provide another update soon, and is also in discussions with Four Nations ministerial colleagues
  • a ministerial led high-level group and sub-groups have been established to discuss matters concerning the FE and HE sectors

 SQA provided an update noting:

  • new statements at the end of last week concerning grade estimates processes; N5 coursework; awarding of N2, 3, and 4 and freestanding units at SCQF levels 5, 6 and key areas of focus as developing guidance for making grade estimates; how certification works; and an appeals process

Wider discussions with members of the group considered the following issues:

  • the importance of the estimates guidance and the role that stakeholders should have in developing this
  • consideration of whether pupil grade estimates should be released by schools or colleges in advance of final results
  • the importance of an appeals process and the resource requirement across the education system to support it
  • the importance of how transition to new courses following the end of lockdown may best work
  • what was planned in terms of distance and home learning by a variety of partners

Actions taken:

  • to share a note of the meeting setting out key activity
