This section of the consultation looks ahead to how we could develop the CPD system after 2031.

Developing the CPD system after 2031

A CPD system could be introduced as part of the Agricultural Reform Programme.

While we consider how and what a CPD system could look like should it be introduced before 2031, we also want to think about how it could be used after that date. We have identified some potential options. These are:

• Bring a wider range of individuals within the scope of the CPD system
• Require specific amounts of CPD to be undertaken under each of the 4 headings of CPD activities
• Require that mandatory CPD is undertaken on specific subjects to access any agricultural support
• Make the CPD system mandatory to undertake
• Increase the amount of mandatory CPD to be undertaken in a CPD year
• Provide greater alignment of CPD to support the schemes and actions in Tiers 1-3 of the Agricultural Reform Programme
• Require specific training to be undertaken to support a scheme. For example, we could require applicants to complete training before or after they make an application.

There may be other options that emerge as we consider how and what a CPD system could look like.

Before we decide on the approach we could take after 2031, we will work with stakeholders to look at options. We would also need to seek Ministerial and any Parliamentary approvals.
