Section 8: A technical aspect of the CPD system

This section of the consultation looks at some technical aspects of the CPD system. These relate to the linking of individual CPD logs to those in a wider business with a BRN, and to data and data sharing.

Linking CPD logs of individuals within a business with a BRN

CPD usually relates to activities undertaken by an individual rather than a business. Each individual has their own CPD log.

Some systems are able to join up CPD logs within a business. This can help them have oversight of the CPD undertaken by all its employees.

We are aware of instances where CPD has to be undertaken by a business rather than individuals in it. This approach helps to ensure that this requirement can be met.

The ability to link individual CPD logs in a business (with the same BRN) could provide advantages for a business. This could be where we set out that a business has to undertake specific CPD to be eligible for support.

We recognise that there would need to be safeguards built into the system. These could for example, relate to how to view or amend data. We would explore these issues as we worked on the technical specifications for the CPD system.
