Consultation on Three Joint UK Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) for Pelagic Stocks

We are seeking your views on three pelagic FMPs. The plans bring together evidence on the state of the horse mackerel and greater silver smelt stocks in UK waters and identify policies and actions necessary to manage our fisheries in an effective and sustainable way.

Duration of the consultation

This consultation will run for 6 weeks, closing at 23:59 on 10 November 2026. Responses must be received by 23:59 on 10 November 2026.

The consultation period takes account of the statutory deadline to publish final plans by the end of 2026 and the limited direct commercial interest in the stocks concerned. Additionally, shared similarities with the first five pelagic FMPs currently under consultation mean stakeholders will already be familiar with the structure, layout and proposed approach. For these reasons, the Scottish Government as coordinating authority, alongside Defra and DAERA have agreed that a six-week consultation period is appropriate for these plans.

At the end of the consultation period, we will summarise the responses and place the summary on the Scottish Government’s FMPs webpage.
