The majority of respondents to the consultation considered that the SBC’s functions under the 2020 Act were appropriate – although refinement to such functions was not opposed if this was subject to careful consideration and scrutiny.

The majority of respondents to the consultation considered that the bodies subject to the SBC’s oversight and code of practice under the 2020 Act were not appropriate with an expansion of oversight being the predominant view rather than a reduction in oversight.

Further views provided, in addition to the above matters, predominantly related to the regulatory frameworks governing biometric data and technologies in Scotland in the policing and criminal justice context. Respondents highlighted areas that have been strengthened under the 2020 Act, areas where frameworks could be improved, and challenges that continue to persist.
