This is the 46th publication of weighted Scotland estimates from the ONS’ BICS. These are experimental statistics, which means that they are still in development but have been released to enable their use at an early stage. All results are provisional and subject to revision.

Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in the period 11 July to 24 July 2022 (Wave 61), the share of businesses reporting that they were fully trading was estimated at 96.0%. Accommodation & Food Services continued to be the industry sector with the lowest share of “fully trading” businesses, estimated at 85.0%
  • in Wave 61, 34.9% of businesses reported experiencing a shortage of workers - rising to 49.8% in the Accommodation & Food Services sector, and 36.4% in the Construction sector
  • in Wave 61, the main concerns for businesses for August 2022 were inflation of goods and services prices (32.7%) and energy prices (25.3%)
  • in June 2022, 68.3% of the workforce were estimated to be working from a designated workspace, 22.0% to be using a hybrid model of working and 6.2% working from home (Wave 60)
  • in Wave 60, 55.1% of currently trading businesses reported that the prices of materials, goods or services bought in June 2022 had increased from the previous calendar month. In contrast, only 21.8% of businesses currently trading reported that they had increased the price of goods or services sold
