Advice on River Naver seal licence application: EIR release

Information request and response under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004.

Information requested

While not entirely surprised to receive a blunt no to the seal licence application for the Naver it was still disappointing. Particularly so given the very restricted geographical area and circumstances within which just ONE seal was applied for. Don't get me wrong here, my own feeling is that I don't want anything killed but one day for the sake one seal many hundreds of salmon may perish in the Naver.

We intend to appeal, but cannot do so within the current timeframe, without full knowledge of the advice received by MS-LOT in making their determination. Please could you provide all advice received, including, but not limited to, advice from NatureScot and Marine Scotland Science in making your decision in regard to the River Naver seal licence application.

Response

We enclose a copy of most of the information you requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exception under Regulation 11(2) (personal information of a third party) of the EIRs applies to that information. The reason why that exception applies is explained in the Annex B to this letter.
