The Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting.

Updates from Scottish Government

The Chair gave the group an update on the work of the short-life working group which has been set up to undertake a formal review of the delivery of annual health checks paperwork.  The Chair thanked members who had provided input to the prequestionnaire section update.

Data update 

The Group were advised that the next LD Annual Health Checks Data Programme Board will take place on Wednesday 17 December.

Following the request from SG to provide case studies which demonstrate the impact of annual health checks. It was confirmed that 3 Boards had submitted case studies. Officials offered support to the remaining Boards in completing the case study template.

Request from Scottish Learning Disability Lead Nurse Group and SEND

Scottish Learning Disability Lead Nurse Group are interested in getting an update on the variation of models used on the delivery of annual health checks across the Boards. This is at the request of the Scottish Executive Nurse Directors (SEND). A template on how to capture the feedback was shared with the group for consideration and it was agreed that returns would be sent back to Officials ahead of the next meeting on Thursday 18 December.

Health Board update presentation – NHS Lanarkshire 

Colleagues from NHS Lanarkshire gave a presentation updating the Group regarding their progress made in implementing annual health checks.

Update from NES

Colleagues for NES gave an update to the group regarding recent staffing changes.

An update was provided by NES on their ongoing work with PAMIS on supporting those with PFMLD getting their annual health checks and they were in the process of creating a new resource for this. 

There was an update on some work NES were currently undertaking in relation to the role of the nurse when undertaking a health check in terms of preparation work required ahead of the appointment in terms of reasonable adjustments.

NES confirmed that the new podcast on Data would be released in due course.

Learning event

Following recent meetings between SG and individual health boards the discussion of a learning event had been raised. Members were asked to consider whether or not this would be useful and to have a think about what this would look like. This item will be added to the agenda of the next meeting to be discussed further.

Date of next meeting 

The next meeting will take place on Thursday 18 December 2025. It was agreed that meeting dates for 2026 would be arranged and issued to the group.
