Third sector interfaces

Third sector interfaces (TSIs) provide a single point of access for support and advice for the third sector within local areas. There is a TSI in each local authority area in Scotland.

In 2016 we commissioned an independent review of the interfaces model and the role of their umbrella organisation Voluntary Action Scotland (VAS).

We set out our response to the review in December 2017 following stakeholder engagement. This included:

  • ceasing to fund VAS from September 2018
  • redefining our vision statement for the TSI network
  • establishing a closer and more direct working relationship with TSIs
  • exploring options for longer term change

The review also recommended that there should be a move away from the four original functions that TSIs had been prescribed to deliver on and towards an outcomes framework.

We have worked with Evaluation Support Scotland and TSIs to co-produce a TSIs outcome framework, published in November 2018.

The framework puts emphasis on responding to local needs and outcomes within the broad roles that we have identified.
