We are committed to leading by example in tackling climate change, by doing what we can to reduce the environmental impact of our activities.
We have an overarching target to reduce our estate’s emissions by 30% by March 2020, in comparison with the 2009 to 2010 baseline.
We are ensuring sustainable performance by:
- encouraging staff to fulfil the objectives of our corporate environmental management policy
- delivering the activities set out in our carbon management plan
- setting sustainability targets for our carbon management, waste and travel
- publishing sustainable performance reports on the efficiency and sustainability of our estate
Climate change duties
The Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 places climate change duties on Scottish public bodies which are detailed in the guidance on public bodies’ climate change duties.
Each year we submit our climate change duties report, detailing the climate change performance of our estate for that financial year, to the Scottish Sustainable Network. Find more information on our sustainable performance reports page.
Carbon Trust Triple Standard
We were the first government in the UK to be certified to the Carbon Trust Triple Standard, and have retained the award in 2018. The award recognises significant reductions made in energy usage, greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, management of effluent, and waste management since 2012.
