The Board for Official Statistics was set up in September 2016 with the following remit:

to agree a vision and strategy for official statistics in Scotland, ensuring that the strategy is appropriate for the challenges we face over the next five years

to advise on the plan for delivering the agreed strategy, offer advice on prioritisation, and oversee delivery

to make sure the voices of those using data and statistics about Scotland are heard and influence the way the strategy is developed and delivered
-
to identify new opportunities for improvements to the quality, trustworthiness or impact of official statistics in Scotland or the efficiency of their production, and to prioritise their development/adoption

The board will typically meet twice a year and is chaired by Ally McAlpine. Members have been selected based on their professional expertise rather than as representing specific organisations or constituencies. The board for official statistics replaces the former ScotStat board.
Accountability
The three Scottish Heads of Profession from Scottish Government, Public Health and Intelligence and National Records Scotland are accountable for delivery of official statistics in Scotland to the UK National Statistician.
