Màiri McAllan MSP was appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Housing in June 2025.

Responsibilities

These ministerial pages reflect the position at the start of the pre-election period, on 26 March 2026. A new ministerial team will be announced shortly after the Parliament selects its nominee for First Minister. Up to that point the previous ministerial team remains in post.

The Cabinet Secretary is responsible for:

  • Affordable Housing Supply Programme
  • Housing to 2040 strategy
  • homelessness and rough sleeping
  • cladding remediation
  • regulation of existing housing systems
  • tenants rights
  • building standards
  • welfare and debt advice services
  • heat networks
  • Heat in Buildings programme
  • heating and domestic energy transformation
  • domestic energy efficiency
  • fuel poverty

Biography

Màiri McAllan is a former corporate lawyer and Special Adviser to the First Minister and was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2021 to represent the constituency of Clydesdale.

Ms McAllan, while practising law, specialised in energy and natural resources in a large Glasgow firm. She also cofounded the human rights organisation ‘Reblaw Scotland’ during this time.

Ms McAllan was  appointed Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Just Transition in March 2023,  Cabinet Secretary for Wellbeing Economy, Net Zero and Energy in February 2024 and Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero and Energy in May 2024.
