The Lochs Duich, Long & Alsh Special Area of Conservation (SAC) was designated under the EU Habitats Directive to protect reefs. Recent analysis of fisheries data indicates that the reef has been potentially exposed to scallop dredging, which can cause deterioration of the reef.
Under the Habitats Directive, member states have a duty to put measures in place to prevent deterioration of SACs. Therefore, to prevent any further risk of deterioration, a fishing vessel licence variation has been issued (with effect from 0001 hours on 20 April 2014).
Management of this site falls under the Omnibus Fishing Order.
