SVCV infection on FHM cell lineA single stranded RNA virus in the family Rhabdoviridae affecting all varieties of common carp. Outbreaks can occur when water temperatures increase about 7°C in Spring time, although not exclusive to this season.

Clinical signs include darkening of the skin, swollen eyes, abdominal swelling, pale gills, and trailing faecal casts.

The diagnostic methods include:

  • Virus Isolation
  • Immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT)
  • Enyzme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • Molecular and sequencing
