Paper 25th May 2004 - LGRAS(04)5

LGRAS ( 04 ) 5 - INFORMATION AVAILABLE FROM THE SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE WEB SITE

1 Introduction

1.1 This paper reminds Members of the Group of the availability of extra road accident statistics tables on the Scottish Executive (SE) Web site, and invites views on their usefulness and on what (if any) other tables might be put on the Web site. The SE web site also includes, as a matter of course, the Excel spreadsheet versions of tables from the most recent editions of each Transport Statistics publication. Views on the layout of the new SE Web site are also sought.

2 Extra road accident statistics tables

2.1 Members of the Group will recall the discussion of possible extra road accident statistics tables at the previous meeting. In the light of the advice of the Group, several extra road accident statistics tables were made available on the SE web site towards the end of March 2004. They can be found at: www.scotland.gov.uk/transtat/extras

2.2 The extra tables are available in 2 forms: Excel spreadsheets and PDF files. The tables cover:

  • Killed and seriously injured casualties by mode of transport, 1981 to 2002;
  • Slight casualties by mode of transport, 1981 to 2002;
  • Child killed by mode of transport, 1981 to 2002;
  • Child killed and seriously injured casualties by mode of transport, 1981 to 2002;

  • Accidents by council and severity, 1981 to 2002;
  • Casualties by council and severity, 1981 to 2002.

It is intended to update these tables annually, following the publication of a further year's "final" figures in "Road Accidents Scotland".

2.3 Members of the Group are asked to say:

  • whether these extra road accident statistics tables have been of use to them;
  • whether there are any other extra road accident statistics tables that they would like to have available on the Web site, and what they would be used for.

3. The Scottish Executive Transport Statistics Web pages
