Environmental Noise Issues
Existing legislation and controls over vehicle noise provide a limited solution to the problems of Transportation noise. The Scottish Government is therefore making use of the European Union Environmental Noise Directive commonly known as END, to manage noise pollution, particularly noise from Transportation Sources as required by END. The END was transposed into Scots law in 2006. We are working in close cooperation with key partners, Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, Airport Operators, SEPA and others to implement action plans produced under the terms of the Directive and our Regulations.
We have published Strategic Noise Action Plans for Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Dundee Airport and Transportation.
