Legislative Process

The Bill was a public Bill which was introduced by a Cabinet Secretary of the Scottish Government to give effect to Government policy.

Stage 1

The Scottish Parliament's Infrastructure and Investment Committee considered the Bill.

The Committee published its Stage 1 Report in April 2014. This report built on the evidence provided by stakeholders at Stage 1 of the Bill and contained recommendations for the Scottish Government to.

The Scottish Parliament supported the principles of the Bill (following the Stage 1 debate on 24 April 2014).

The Scottish Government responded to the Stage 1 report on 2 May 2014.

Stage 2

The Committee debated and voted on proposed amendments to the Bill (at Stage 2) during May 2014.  The Bill was amended at Stage 2 on 28 May 2014.

Stage 3

The Parliament debated and voted on proposed amendments to the Bill (at Stage 3).  Following the Stage 3 debate, the Bill was passed by the Scottish Parliament on 25 June 2014.


Royal Assent

The Bill became an Act when it recieved Royal Assent on 1 August 2014.
