This publication presents information from a survey of pesticide use on arable crops and potato stores in Scotland.
The survey period covers the 2014 growing season, from post-harvest pesticide applications in 2013 through to harvest in 2014. The crops surveyed included barley, wheat, oats, oilseeds, potatoes and legumes.
Overall, the total area of pesticide formulations applied to arable crops, and the total weight used in 2014, was very similar to that reported in the previous survey in 2012.
The estimated total area of arable crops treated with a pesticide formulation was ca. 5,247,990 ha with a combined weight of ca. 1,510 tonnes.
Pesticides were applied to 98 per cent of the arable crop area.
In relation to pesticide use on stored potatoes, 47% of seed potatoes were treated with a pesticide in 2014, an increase from the 20% treated in 2012. Conversely, 11% of ware potatoes were treated with a pesticide, a decrease from the 35% treated in 2012.
