- The numbers of adults as a percentage of all adults known to a local authority are estimates as the figures may not have come from the same base of individuals.
- Care should be taken when comparing figures between years. Differences between these figures can be partially accounted for improvements in data collection techniques as well as actual changes in the numbers known to authorities.
- Some figures have not been displayed (*) for individual local authorities to maintain confidentiality.
- Figures for Argyll & Bute, Eilean Siar and Perth & Kinross are based on 2006 estimates.
