Chapter 2: Schools built or substantially refurbished
The 2020 School Estates Core Facts Survey collected information on all schools that were built or substantially refurbished during the financial year 2019-20. Only builds or refurbishments costing at least half a million pounds for primary and at least one million pounds for secondary and special schools are reported here.
Table 2.1 shows that 30 schools were built or refurbished in 2019-20. Of these, 23 were primary schools, six were secondary schools and one was a special school. Since 2007-08, 958 schools have been built or substantially refurbished.

1. Only includes builds or refurbishments costing at least half a million pounds for primary and at least one million pounds for secondary and special schools.
2. Excludes any builds or refurbishments in Dundee City as this information was not available at the time of publication. Information on planned work indicates that this missing data has little or no impact on these statistics.
89.9% of schools were in good or satisfactory condition in April 2020.
91.1%of pupils were in schools in good or satisfactory condition in April 2020.
