Scottish Government funding to NHS Boards for independent sector orthopaedic procedures: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Details of orthopaedic activity and funding allocated through the national contract with Independent Sector providers as follows:

1. Is it not possible to get the totals allocated by the Scottish Government for orthopaedic activity as your letter notes?

2. I understand the Scottish Government might not hold the information about operations paid for but would you be able to provide the information about the amount allocated, through NHS boards, to private providers?

Response

Our aim is to provide information wherever possible and in this instance I can confirm that the Scottish Government have made available £10.2 million to NHS Boards in 2019/20 to undertake 1,890 orthopaedic procedures through the national contract with Independent Sector providers. However due to delays in this activity commencing, there will be a £1.5 million underspend that is being returned to the Scottish Government.
