Early retirals of GPs and Hospital Consultants: FOI release

Information requested

 

1. In each of the past three years, how many GPs have successfully applied to take their pension early as a result of resignation/retirement in each health board area?

2.  In each of the past three years, how many hospital consultants have successfully applied to take their pension early as a result of resignation/retirement in each health board area?

1. In each of the past three years, how many GPs have successfully applied to take their pension early as a result of resignation/retirement in each health board area?

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Public Pensions Agency does not have all the information you have requested.

It is not possible to identify the individual Health Board for each GP retirement because the SPPA pension system does not hold this data. However, the numbers provided below are a total for all GP early retirements.

 

1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017	70
1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018	66
1 April 2018 to 28 February 2019	71

 

2. In each of the past three years, how many hospital consultants have successfully applied to take their pension early as a result of resignation/retirement in each health board area?

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Public Pensions Agency does not have the information you have requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Public Pensions Agency does not have the information you have requested because Hospital Consultants cannot be identified on our administration system. Hospital Consultants are classed under the same pension regulations as the majority of NHS Pension Scheme Members, so are not coded differently on our system.
