Information requested

1. Number of looked after children by categories of disability status (Yes/No/Not yet assessed/Missing) who were accommodated at some point in the year in statutory residential care home in Scotland. Yearly figures from 2008-2017 requested.

2. Number of looked after children by categories of disability status (Yes/No/Not yet assessed/Missing) who were accommodated at some point in the year in voluntary residential care home in Scotland. Yearly figures from 2008-2017 requested.

3. Number of looked after children by categories of disability status (Yes/No/Not yet assessed/Missing) who were accommodated at some point in the year in statutory residential care home in the following authorities - Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire. Yearly figures from 2008-2017 requested.

Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested. This includes Annex A, which sets out numbers of looked after children by categories of disability status in (i) statutory or (ii) voluntary residential in either Scotland or in the specified local authorities (Glasgow, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Lanarkshire, West Dunbartonshire) for each of the years from 2008 to 2017.

In addition, I am enclosing the sets of Guidance and Data Specification documentation which explain the data which appears in the Tables. Annex B, 2017 Guidance (see section 2.1 on page 8) defines disability for the purposes of the data from 2016 and 2017. Annex C, 2017 Data Specification (see section 2.3.4 f on page 12) confirms the care setting (placement type) for data from 2016 and 2017.

Annex D, 2015 Guidance (see section 2.1 on page 8) defines disability for the purposes of the data from all years requested prior to 2016. Annex E, 2015 Data Specification (see section 2.3.2 i on page 8) confirms the care setting (placement type) for data prior to 2016.
