Will recycling centres be appropriately managed to maintain physical distancing?

From 1 June 2020, household waste recycling centres began to reopen.

Sites must operate safely, ensuring physical distancing is maintained, and should only be visited when absolutely necessary.

Please check online with your local authority for advice on which centres are open and what safety precautions are in place before travelling to a centre.

What about those who can’t get to a recycling centre because they’re at risk or shielding?

Anyone with specific waste service needs should contact their local authority who can advise on the options they have during lockdown.

The national helpline - 0800 111 4000 - for people who have no support from friends and family, will stay in place as we go through the various Phases, to link individuals at risk to support coordinated by their local authority.
