2% of children in Scotland were looked after or on child protection register.
At 31 July 2018, an estimated 16,751 children in Scotland were looked after or on the child protection register.
14,738 were looked after, 2,668 were on the child protection register and 655 were both looked after and on the child protection register.
85 young people were in secure care accommodation.
Compared with 2016-17, there was a 1% decrease in the number of children looked after, a 3% increase in the number of children on the child protection register and there were 5 more young people, on average, in secure care accommodation.
