Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in the period 24 July to 6 August 2023 (Wave 88), the share of businesses that were using or intended to use increased homeworking as a permanent business model was highest in the Information & Communication (63.3%) and Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities (43.7%) sectors
  • improved staff wellbeing was the most commonly reported reason for using increased homeworking as a permanent businesses model going forward - this was reported by 78.8% of relevant businesses in Wave 88
  • homeworking not being suitable for the business was the most commonly reported reason for not using increased homeworking as a permanent businesses model going forward - this was reported by 86.1% of relevant businesses in Wave 88
  • in Wave 88, 3.8% of applicable businesses reported that they had been affected by industrial action in June 2023
  • an estimated 87.4% of applicable businesses reported being able to access the materials, goods or services they needed from within the UK in June 2023
  • the top three effects of climate change that businesses have assessed risk for were supply chain disruption and distribution (15.6%), increased flooding (6.2%) and temperature increases (4.4%). However, an estimated 60.6% of businesses reported that they had not assessed risks for any of the specified effects
