This is the 51st publication of weighted Scotland estimates from the ONS’ BICS. These are experimental statistics, which means that they are still in development but have been released to enable their use at an early stage. All results are provisional and subject to revision.

Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in the period 20 September to 2 October 2022 (Wave 66), 41.6% of businesses reported experiencing a shortage of workers - rising to 53.7% in the Accommodation & Food Services sector
  • in Wave 66, 62.7% of businesses reported that the shortage of workers has resulted in employees working increased hours, and 37.2% of businesses reported that they have had to recruit temporary workers
  • in Wave 66, the main concerns for businesses for October 2022 were energy prices (38.7%) and inflation of goods and services prices (28.4%)
  • in Wave 66, the most common ways that businesses reported reducing carbon emissions were switching to LED bulbs (53.5%) and adjusting heating and cooling systems (41.7%)
