New National Parks - nomination process and draft appraisal framework: consultation

We produced an appraisal framework to support the assessment of nominations for new National Park designations. This consultation is seeking your views and comments on this and the selection criteria for new National Parks in Scotland.

1. Introduction

The Scottish Government has committed to designating at least one new National Park in Scotland by Spring 2026, provided relevant legal conditions can be met. In order to ensure an open and transparent process, nominations for National Park status will be appraised based on the criteria set out in Section 4.

This document has been produced to support individuals, groups or organisations submitting proposals for a new National Park designation.
