Dr Carey Fraser is Head of Professional Development for Science in the Scottish Government (SG).
Carey began her career as a lab technician and studied part-time for an OU degree in biological sciences, a PhD in molecular biology and an MBA. During this period she worked in different areas of Scottish Government aquatic sciences, in researcher, group leader and programme manager roles.
Carey currently has responsibility for the Science Operations Programme in Marine Scotland Science. The Programme provides Engineering, Scientific ships logistics, statistics, fisheries data, and quality, data and information management services to all areas of Marine Scotland Science and other collaborators. She is also active in promoting diversity and equality within science and engineering areas of the Scottish Government.
As the Head of Professional development for Science, Carey has responsibility for the development and oversight of a career development strategy for scientists working in the Scottish Government and works collaboratively with Heads of Science and Engineering Profession across government to develop best practice and continuous improvement in learning and development, talent management and raising the profile and impact of science in the Scottish Government.
