Economic value and employment in the UK of activities carried out in the marine environment

The UK Government and the Devolved Administrations share the vision of achieving clean, healthy, safe, productive and biologically diverse oceans and seas. Evidence shows that that the UK’s seas are economically productive and that there are strong policy drivers to increase this productivity. The marine sector provided an aggregated gross value added (GVA) of £38.5 bn to the UK economy in 2012 and was responsible for 259,000 jobs.
