The Scottish Government has regularly provided research funding for collaborative work between the Scottish catching sector and fisheries scientists. From 2006 until 2011 this was undertaken by Scottish Industry/Science Partnerships (SISP), and from 2012 this was replaced by the Fishing Industry Science Alliance (FISA).
The overall aims of the Fishing Industry Science Alliance are:
-
to conduct research to enhance knowledge on current topics of interest to the Scottish fishing industry
-
to contribute to increased collaboration and understanding between fishermen and scientists in Scotland to support effective management for sustainable marine fisheries
Between 2012 and 2015, £150,000 has been secured annually, funding 16 collaborative FISA projects. For more details of the projects see the relevant Projects and Reports tabs.
**It has now been confirmed that there will not be a call for FISA applications in 2017/18, and at present funds are not available to continue the scheme in future years. In the event of any changes to funding availability a call will be widely publicised. Marine Scotland Science is committed to ensuring the completion of existing FISA projects and reports will be added to the website in due course**
