This page serves as notice under section 88(3) and (4)(a) of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010 that Scottish Ministers made an urgent Marine Conservation Order, under section 88(1) of said Act, on 17 August 2015, coming into force on 18 August 2015. It will remain in force for one year or until replaced by a permanent marine conservation order.
The purpose of this Order is to further the conservation objectives of all the protected features, recovery conservation objective of maerl beds in particular. The Wester Ross Nature Conservation MPA, which was designated as a nature conservation MPA by Scottish Ministers on 23 July 2014.
The Order prohibits the deployment or use of any mechanical or suction dredge throughout the MPA. This is the exact same measure for dredging that is in the draft Marine Conservation Order proposed for implementation. No other types of fishing are affected.
In accordance with section 88(4)(b) of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010, a copy of this Order can be downloaded below or inspected at 1A South, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ. Under section 88(4)(c) of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010, Scottish Ministers have the power to revoke this Order and any person affected by the making of the Order may make representations to them. Please email Marine_Conservation@scotland.gsi.gov.uk if you would like to make any representation regarding this Order.
If you have already made a representation regarding the permanent Marine Conservation Order then there is no need to restate your views which are already being taken into account.
