Fishing Capacity & Engine Testing

Each EU Member State is responsible for ensuring that the total capacity of its fishing fleet (measured in the kilowatt capacity of engines and the tonnage of vessels) is not higher than the maximum levels specified in EU regulations.

Marine Scotland Compliance tests engine power to establish the actual power of vessel engines. This is then compared with what is recorded on both the vessel's licence and the UK fleet register to ensure that we do not exceed the UK capacity limits.
