A Rhabdovirus containing single stranded RNA, IHNV affects most species of salmonid fish in fresh and seawater. IHNV outbreaks can cause high mortality and have severe economic impacts to rainbow trout industries.
Clinical signs include lethary, abnormal swimming, darkening of the skin, pale gills, ascities, distended abdomen, exophthalmia and petechinal haemorrhages.
The diagnostic methods include:
- Virus Isolation
- Immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT)
- Enyzme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
- Molecular and sequencing
