Woodland thinning - WIG

This capital item is available for the thinning of trees to enhance biodiversity, a designed landscape or recreational areas.

You must prepare a report stating the current stocking of the woodland, the number and percentage of unwanted stems to be thinned and the desired stocking density of the woodland after completion of the operations. This must be agreed with the Forestry Commission Scotland.

If felling conifers, you must ensure that stump protection procedures are followed. For safety reasons, cut trees must not be left hanging or leaning on adjacent trees.

This capital item is only available where the net cost of the operation will exceed the standard cost. You should supply such cost projections as supporting information with your proposal.
