The Future of Scottish Agriculture

The Future of Scottish Agriculture

On 19 June 2015, at the Royal Highland Show, the Scottish Government published a Discussion Document on The Future of Scottish Agriculture. The document sets out a vision of a productive, innovative and profitable future for Scottish farming.

A national discussion on the Future of Scottish Agriculture was launched on 3 August 2015 at the Turriff Show. The Scottish Government invited individuals with an interest in agriculture, or rural land use, to become involved.  Throughout the national discussion, stakeholders and officials organised a number of events across Scotland which were attended by a wide range of people from different sectors and backgrounds.

A great number of views on what needs to happen to realise the agricultural vision were received from discussion events and formal submissions. You can read those responses that have been published here.

The national discussion closed on 24 March 2016.

A summary of the recurring themes from the discussions was published on 24 June 2016 at the at the Royal Highland Show.

The Scottish Government has been listening carefully to the views raised, and will be working closely with industry representatives to identify and agree the next steps in delivering the agricultural vision
