The urban rural (6-fold and 8-fold) information for schools open in 2016 was revised following errors identified in the original list (published in January 2017).  The latest information should be used for any urban/rural analysis for schools open in 2016.

28 June 2017 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland 2013 edition Pupil Census Supplementary datasets - Class Sizes

In June 2017 primary school class size data for 2013 was revised to correct errors made matching data to the correct school.  These changes only affect the school level supplementary data class sizes dataset.  They do not affect the school roll dataset or any other tables or datasets and have no impact on the main messages of these statistics.

29 April 2015 – Scottish Survey of Literacy and Numeracy 2012 (Literacy)

In April 2015, reading results (supplementary tables 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4) were revised to include Gaelic data and to reclassify independent school pupil results from ‘least deprivation’ category to ‘unknown deprivation’ category. Writing results by deprivation category (supplementary table 2.3) were revised to reclassify independent school pupil results from ‘least deprivation’ category to ‘unknown deprivation’ category. These changes have had no effect on the main messages of the literacy performance statistics.

Pupil and teacher questionnaire results have also been revised to reflect corrections in underlying weights.

The figures in these tables have been superseded, please refer to the revised supplementary tables.

13 March 2015 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland 2013 and 2014 edition and Teacher and Pupil Census Supplementary datasets

In March 2015, supplementary tables 2.8, 3.9 and 4.8 were amended in the 2014 supplementary tables due to 2013 data being used in error for the 'other subject' column. Table 4.8 was also amended in the 2013 and 2014 supplementary tables due to data for two ASN categories being incorrectly entered. These changes have no affect on the main messages of these statistics.

25 February 2015 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland 2014 edition and Teacher and Pupil Census Supplementary datasets

In February 2015, the teacher numbers for 2014 were corrected in both the publication and supplementary datasets as a result of minor amendments to Highland figures. There were slight changes to primary, secondary and special school teacher figures which totalled to less than ten FTE. The pupil census 2014 data was also corrected at this time to take account of one pupil who had been recorded in the wrong class. This resulted in a slight change to some class size tables but no changes to overall pupil numbers. These changes did not affect the main messages of these statistics and all tables with changes are footnoted as such.

26 September 2014 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland 2013 edition, Pupil Census supplementary dataset

Table 1.6 in the supplementary tables, 'Integration of pupils with Additional Support Needs into mainstream classes, 2013', was amended as special school figures had not been included in columns:  'with CSP', 'with IEP', 'with Other Need', 'Assessed Or Declared Disabled' or 'Child Plans'.

19 August 2014 - Atainment and Leaver Destinations Supplementary Data, 2012/13

Table A1.13 in the supplementary tables, 'Total qualifications attained by leavers at SCQF level 6, by subject, grade and gender, 2012/13', was amended as attainment in Computing Studies had been omitted.

14 May 2014 - Atainment and Leaver Destinations Supplementary Data, 2011/12

Table A1.13 in the supplementary tables, 'Total qualifications attained by leavers at SCQF level 6, by subject, grade and gender, 2011/12', was amended as the data had been incorrectly inputted into the table.

Tables A3.2 and A3.3 in the supplementary tables, 'Highest qualifications attained by leavers with additional support needs, by ASN, 2011/12' and 'Total qualifications attained by leavers from secondary and special schools with additional support needs, ASN, 2011/12' respectively have been amended to correct columns and links and omit a small amount of additional qualifications included in error. These changes do not affect the main trends shown in the tables and the changes are small.

11 February 2014 -  Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland 2013 edition, Exclusions supplementary dataset

Exclusions data in the publication and in the supplementary dataset were amended as information on three exclusions in Edinburgh and 16 in Highland were supplied after the publication date. This effected Tables 5.1, 5.2 and main point 1.7 in the publication, and most of the exclusions supplementary tables.

Pre-school pupil and school figures for 2012 in Table 1.1 in the publication were amended as revised data had not been published previously.

19 December 2013 - Teacher Census, Supplementary Data 2011

Support staff figures for secondary schools in East Renfrewshire were amended as one school had returned their data in hours instead of full-time equivalent. This effected the East Renfrewshire and All local authorities figures in Table 8.11 and Table 8.11 full, and also the figures in table 3.17 showing total support staff for secondary schools in Scotland.

11 December 2013 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions and teacher and pre-school supplementary datasets

Data on pre-school, primary and total teachers along with associated pupil teacher ratios for 2010, 2011, 2012 have been revised to remove teachers who were double counted as a result of working in both sectors. Therefore these figures have been superseded, please use revised figures in the 2013 publication.

11 December 2013 - School Estate Statistics, Supplementary Data 2010, 2011 and 2012

Suitability figures for 2010, 2011 and 2012 have been corrected to take account of revised suitability information for one East Dunbartonshire school in 2010, 39 in 2011 and one in 2012 and so differ slightly from previously published figures.

23 October 2013 - Atainment and Leaver Destinations Supplementary Data, 2011/12

Table L4.1 in the supplementary tables, titled 'Percentage of secondary and special school leavers from publicly funded schools in Scotland by reason for support and initial destination category, 2011/12' was revised to include only leavers with a robust match to the pupil census. This change was necessary as leavers who did not match to the pupil census would not have any information on additional support needs and pupils with a non-robust match could have information on the additional support needs of another pupil matched to their leaver destination information. This correction reduced the number of leavers reported on in this table by around 200 but did not change the overall distribution of school leaver destinations by reason for support.

27 September 2013 - School Estate Statistics, Supplementary Data 2010 and 2012

2010 and 2012 School level information for East Dunbartonshire has been temporarily removed pending further investigation following notification that the condition and suitability may be incorrect for some or all schools in East Dunbartonshire.

Totals and a small error in Table 1.3 of the teacher census supplementary data revised. Totals amended to exclude the duplication due to teachers teaching at two levels (e.g. teaching in both primary and secondary schools). Both issues corrected and footnoted as such. This did not affect any of the messages and data of the main publication.

In Tables 1.1, 1.2, 6.1 and 11.1, the Pre-School figures were amended due to Fife’s centre-based pre-school teacher figures being revised down to the total estimated by the Scottish Government as part of its Pre-School Education Census, replacing the total WTE figure provided by Fife at the time of publication.  Tables 2.7, 3.7, 4.7, 7.8, 8.8 and 9.7 relating to ethnicity have now been provided.

29 February 2012 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland No.2: 2011 Edition

Small errors were discovered in the additional support needs data recorded in Table 3.5 and these have now been corrected. Special school pupils with no additional support needs recorded had been excluded in error from the total pupils with ASN category and the grant aided special school pupils with an IEP or Disability recorded had not been recorded correctly in these categories. Table 3.5 in the Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.2 : 2011 Edition have been amended.

01 February 2012 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland No.2: 2011 Edition

Tables 3.1, 3.3 and 3.4 were amended due to additional information received from a local authority after publication, that one of the large P1 classes had two teachers. This amendment has caused the percentage of P1-P3 pupils in class sizes of 18 or fewer in 2011 to increase slightly from 20.1 to 20.2. The class size tables in the supplementary tables Pupil Census Supplementary Data, 2011 have also been amended. Table 3.5 has also been corrected to include additional information on pupils with additional support needs which were submitted by local authorities after publication.

An error was discovered in the exclusions data, five pupils were incorrectly recorded under the special sector and have now been allocated to the correct sector. This correction has caused the number of exclusions for pupils with Additional Support needs to decrease by 2 in Table 5.2 (as all pupils in special schools are assumed to have Additional Support needs). The number of exclusions remains unchanged. The supplementary tables in the Exclusions, background dataset 2010/11 have also been amended.

31 January 2012 - Teacher Census, Supplementary Data 2011

Small errors were discovered in Tables 1.3, 2.13, 3.15, 4.11 and 8.10 of the teacher census supplementary data. These were corrected and footnoted as such. In Tables 2.13, 3.15 and 4.11, the figures for the category "up to 10 hours" were amended to include those staff who had no class contact time.  They did not affect any of the messages or data of the main publication.

19 August 2011 - SQA Attainment and School Leaver Qualifications in Scotland 2008/09

Tables 17 and 18 in this publication present qualifications attained by leavers with additional support needs from publicly funded secondary and special schools. An error was identified in the programme used to produce this table, which resulted in the omission of the small number of leavers from grant aided special schools and the allocation of a small number of leavers to an incorrect reason for support category. The table has been amended to correct the error and has been replaced in the SQA Attainment and School Leaver Qualifications in Scotland: 2008/09 publication.

03 August 2011 - Summary statistics for schools in Scotland No.1 : 2010 Edition

It was discovered that the correction made on 3rd March 2011 had been incorrectly implemented. Therefore, table 2.1 in the Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.1 : 2010 Edition, was further amended. In each case the change to the total number of teachers was less than five.

20 July 2011 - School leaver attainment and SQA attainment supplementary data 2009/10

An error was discovered in Table 1.11 of the School leaver attainment and SQA attainment supplementary data. The 'Black-Carribean' and 'Asian-Bangladeshi' ethnic groups were omitted from the 'All other categories' ethnic grouping. As this correction was required, the opportunity was taken to also clarify which categories were included in the ethnicity groupings in each table.

13 June 2011 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.1 : 2010 Edition

During further analysis of the September 2010 Pupil Census data, it was discovered that the one mainstream grant aided school had submitted incorrect data. The effect of correcting this data at a national level was an increase of five in the number of primary pupils and a decrease of three in the number of secondary pupils in 2010. However, this small change also affected one of the headline messages, changing the percentage of P1-P3 pupils in classes of 18 or less (including two teacher classes of 36 or less) from 21.7 per cent to 21.6 per cent (the precise percentage is very close to 21.65). Therefore, all tables that included mainstream grant aided pupil figures have been amended. This includes Tables 1.1, 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 in the Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.1 : 2010 Edition, and most of the tables in the Pupil Census, Supplementary data.

24 March 2011 - Teacher Census, Supplementary Data 2010

Table 1.1 in the Teacher Census, Supplementary Data contains Pupil/Teacher Ratios (PTRs). An error was discovered with the PTRs for 2008 and this has been corrected. The error in each case was small and the effect of correcting this error has been to reduce each PTR by between 0.1 and 0.3. This does not affect any other table containing PTRs. As this correction was required, the opportunity was taken to correct some formatting errors in the tables. In particular, a number of tables and charts had been incorrectly referenced in the index. Also, the layout of the tables providing the data for charts has been altered to improve readability. Apart from the 2008 PTRs in Table 1.1, no data have been changed.

22 March 2011 - Exclusions, background dataset 2009/10

An error was discovered in the data used to produce Table 14 - 'Cases of exclusion amongst pupils with additional support needs by type of need' and the Exclusions background dataset has been corrected. Although the corrections to Table 14 were significant and affect analysis of exclusions by reason for support, they do not affect any other tables or the headline messages.

03 March 2011 - Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.1 : 2010 Edition

During further analysis of the September 2010 Pre-School Education Census data, it was discovered that a small number of pre-school education centres had been assigned to an incorrect local authority area. Therefore, previously published local authority figures were incorrect, but national figures for Scotland were unaffected. Therefore, all tables that included local authority level pre-school education figures have been revised. This includes Tables 2.1, 6.1 and 6.2 in the Summary Statistics for Schools in Scotland, No.1 : 2010 Edition, and all of the tables in the Pre-School Education Additional Tables (except Tables 7, 8 and Appendix 1).

08 February 2011 - Pupil Census, Supplementary data

Tables 1.8, 2.7, 3.7, 4.6, 6.11, 7.6 and 8.7 present statistics on Reasons for Support for pupils with Additional Support Needs. An error was discovered in the program used to produce the number of pupils for whom a Reason for Support was reported. The error resulted in a slight undercount of these pupils. Additionally, Table 5.7 showing Main home language of pupils had the Glasgow figure revised. None of these revisions were significant and the Pupil Census, Supplementary data background tables have been updated.

04 November 2010 - Exclusions from School 2008/09

An error was discovered in the program used to produce Tables 4, 6, 13, 14 ,15, 17 and 18 and chart 5, this error has since been corrected and the statistics have been revised. Only the revisions to table 14 were significant and none of these revisions effected the headline message that there were 33,917 cases of exclusions reported in 2008/09. The statistics have been revised and replaced in both the Exclusions from Schools 2008/09 publication and the supporting dataset.

04 November 2010 - Exclusions from School 2007/08

Table 17 in this publication presents the number of cases exclusions of pupils with additional support needs, by reason for support. An error was discovered in the programme used to produce table 17. The error resulted in cases of exclusions for pupils with additional support needs being incorrectly assigned to their reason for support categories. No other tables in the publication were affected. Table 17 has been revised to correct the error and has been replaced in the Exclusions from Schools 2007/08 publication.

04 November 2010 - Exclusions from School 2006/07

Table 13 in this publication presents the number of cases exclusions of pupils with additional support needs, by reason for support. An error was discovered in the programme used to produce table 13. The error resulted in cases of exclusions for pupils with additional support needs being incorrectly assigned to their reason for support categories. No other tables in the publication were affected. Table 13 has been revised to correct the error and has been replaced in the Exclusions from Schools 2006/07 publication.

27 October 2010 - PISA 2006: Highlights from Scotland's Results (Research Report)

Errors were discovered in the two tables on page 3 and the first table on page 4 (the first three tables in the report), and in the text on page 11. An erratum was published and placed alongside the original PISA 2006 report. An annex showing country comparisons under the OECD's preferred methodology has also been published in the same place.

20 October 2010 - School Estate Statistics for 2008 and 2009

Information on the number of schools which were rebuilt or refurbished (either by direct capital funding or via PFI/NDP) in 2007/08 and 2008/09 was revised in the 2010 School Estates publication. This was the result of our ongoing work to improve the quality of our statistical data, it involved analysing and amalgamating data from administrative and statistical sources to produce a revised time series on school building projects for the last 3 financial years. The 2008 and 2009 publications have not been updated to reflect this revision, however the 2008 and 2009 datasets, which provide information at a school level, have been revised.

07 October 2010 - Teachers in Scotland 2009

An error was discovered in the calculation of pupil teacher ratios for 2009 in Tables 8.2. The error did not feed into any other tables. The summary descriptions in the introduction were also not affected. The table has been revised in the Teachers in Scotland 2009 publication.

30 September 2010 - SQA Attainment and School Leaver Qualifications in Scotland 2008/09

Table 14 in this publication presents the number of leavers who achieved SCQF levels 3, 4 and 5 by subject. An error was identified in the programme used to produce this table, which resulted in the pupils not being assigned correctly to each of the SCQF levels 3, 4 and 5. The overall figure for SCQF levels 3-5 in the table was not affected by the error, nor were any other tables in the publication. The table has been revised to correct the error and has been replaced in the SQA Attainment and School Leaver Qualifications in Scotland: 2008/09 publication.
