High Level Summary of Statistics Trend Last update: Wednesday 9 December, 2015
During 2014/15 there were 18,430 exclusions from local authority schools in Scotland, a decrease of 16 per cent from 2012/13. In 5 cases, pupils were removed from the register of the school, though local authorities may also reach agreements with parents to move a pupil to another school without the use of a formal 'removal from register'.
In mainstream schools, rates were highest in S3. Pupils who are excluded are more likely to live in areas of higher deprivation, have additional support needs or be looked after by the local authority.
