Housing Statistics for Scotland - Houses in multiple occupation

Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) is a mandatory licensing scheme which applies to houses or flats occupied by three or more unrelated people, who share bathroom or kitchen facilities.

Statistics on HMO applicants are licenses are collected from local authorities each year through the Housing Statistics Annual Return.

Included in this return are: applications received, applications refused, applications granted, licences revoked or suspended and licences in force.
