Local Authority Statistical Data Provider Information Area
The Gypsies/Travellers collection has been undertaken by the Scottish Government since 1998 in order to more fully understand the characteristics of this population and to assist and inform the development of public policies and services for Gypsies/Travellers, both nationally and locally. Previously, the collection was undertaken by Craigforth on behalf of the Scottish Government, however for this year onwards the collection will be conducted by the Scottish Government Housing Statistics branch.
The last Count was as at July 2009 and since then, a review of the Twice Yearly Count of Gypsies/Travellers in Scotland was carried out. Following the review, work was undertaken to create a revised data collection form taking on board the recommendations from the review.
The Gypsies/Travellers return will be issued annually in January, to collect snapshot data as at 31st July and 31st January, as well as monthly data on unauthorised encampments. This issue of the return will collect data retrospectively back to July 2009 and therefore there are three versions of the return available for completion.
