Scottish Environment Statistics Online Data Updates (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/seso/)
SESO is an online data dissemination tool which accompanies Key Scottish Environment Statistics and is an official statistics publication.
Following on from the recent SESO upgrade, datasets updated since July 5th 2012 are;
Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions 2010 (Published July 17th) (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/07/9583)
This publication provides estimates of Scottish greenhouse gas emissions in Scotland. It also provides information on the performance against emissions targets taking account of trading in the EU Emissions Trading System. 2010 UK greenhouse gas figures were released in February. The Scottish figures were then released on July 17th and can be accessed through the above link.
Data covering 2010 Scottish emissions from land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) were published as official statistics on 13th April and can be found at: http://uk-air.defra.gov.uk/reports/cat07/1204120924_DA_LULUCF_GHG_Inventory_report_2012_fullreport_v2.pdf.
Also published in May was data for Scottish Greenhouse Gas Emissions on a Consumption Basis (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Environment/ExpStats), which informs the National Indicator on Scotland's Carbon Footprint. This data was classed as data being developed, also known as 'experimental statistics'. This means they are subject to a greater degree of revision as methodologies and data-sources continue to be developed. We welcome comments on the methodologies and data sources used.
Local Authority Carbon Dioxide Emissions (published August 23rd) (http://www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/statistics/climate_stats/gg_emissions/laco2/laco2.aspx)
A full dataset is provided and also a dataset on 'Carbon dioxide emissions within the scope of influence of local authorities). This dataset excludes emissions from large industrial plants in the EU Emissions Trading System, motorway traffic and Land Use, Land Use Change, and Forestry emissions, considered not to be in control of the local authority. This is included as Indicator 63 in version 6.2 of the Menu of Local Outcome Indicators.
Key Scottish Environment Statistics 2012 (published August 29th) (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/08/2023)
KSES is an annual snapshot publication and is designated as National Statistics. The latest issue was published on 29 August and can be accessed via the above link.
Following the UK Statistics Authority Assessment of Environment Statistics, there were some changes to the KSES publication this year. KSES now links back to the SESO dataset in all cases to provide access to additional metadata info and also provides an overview of the publication. Excel tables and a PDF version of the publication are also available.
Natural Environment Statistics Advisory Committee (NESAC)
The 22nd meeting of the NESAC took place on the 2nd of May. All papers and minutes from the meeting, along with copies of the three presentations given are available on the NESAC section of the Scotstat website (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Environment/scotstat/committees/NatEnvMeetings). The next meeting will be held on the 28th of November.
Environment Statistics Uses
In line with United Kingdom Statistics Authority requirements we have produced a document outlining the uses we believe are made of our statistics, which can be accessed here http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Environment/StatisticsUses. We are keen to receive any feedback or commentary to this document and hope this will fuel greater user engagement.
Scotland's Environment Web
There is continued development of Scotland's environment website (http://www.environment.scotland.gov.uk/). We (together with others) will contribute to developing the trends and indicators section of the website. We will update users of any major developments.
