KEY FINDINGS
  • On an annualised basis, onshore Scottish Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is estimated to have been £128 billion over the year to 2013 Q3. GDP per capita was £24,100.
  • If a population share of extra-regio (offshore) activity is assigned to Scotland, annualised GDP in 2013 Quarter 3 was £130 billion in total, or £24,500 per capita.
  • Including a geographical share of extra-regio (offshore) activity, annualised GDP in 2013 Quarter 3 was £148 billion in total, or £27,700 per capita.
  • Household final consumption expenditure increased by 2.0% during the third quarter of 2013. The level of household expenditure is now 5.3% higher (£1,044 million) than in 2012 Q3.
  • Gross Disposable Income grew by 0.7% during the third quarter of 2013, and grew by 3.1% compared to 2012 Q3.
  • The household savings ratio was 6.8% in the third quarter of 2013, down from 8.1% in the previous quarter. This has fluctuated between 9.1% and 5.6% during the last four quarters.

 

ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION

This release provides users with a range of macroeconomic statistics for Scotland, including GDP measured using output, income and expenditure approaches, estimates of UK extra-regio activities attributable to Scotland, household sector accounts, and public sector revenues.

This release is currently classed as an experimental statistics publication. These are defined as new official statistics undergoing evaluation, and are published in order to involve users and stakeholders in their development.

Assessment by the United Kingdom Statistics Authority

The UK Statistics Authority has published its assessment report for Quarterly National Accounts Scotland (Number 272) and determined that these statistics can be designated as a new National Statistics product, subject to the Scottish Government implementing specified requirements by July 2014.
