Main Findings
  • During 2018 Quarter 1 the quantity of retail sales in Scotland (adjusted for inflation and seasonal effects) grew 0.5% in Scotland, following a fall of 0.3% in the previous quarter.
  • The value of retail sales in Scotland (adjusted for seasonal effects but not inflation) increased by 0.5% during 2018 Quarter 1. 
  • Over the year since 2017 Quarter 1, the volume of retail sales in Scotland has increased by 1.5%. Over the same period, the value of sales increased by 3.6%, and average retail store prices (the implied deflator) increased by 2.1%.
  • The equivalent figures for retail sales quantities in Great Britain as a whole, produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), are a fall of 0.5% in the latest quarter, and an increase of 1.4% over the year since 2017 Quarter 1.
