In 2013-14, there were 60 cases of homicide involving 61 victims. This represents a decrease of 2 victims from 2012-13. There were 88 persons accused of homicide in Scotland in 2013-14.
Over the last 10 years, the most common method of killing has consistently been with a sharp instrument. In 2013-14, of all the people accused of homicide over half (52%) were under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, while 30% had an unknown alcohol/drug status.
