Children's Social Work Statistics, 2015-16

  • In 2015/16, there were 15,317 looked after children, a decrease of less than 1% on the previous year.
  • There were 2,723 children on the Child Protection register, marginally lower than in 2014/15.
  • There were 88 people resident in secure units at the 31st July 2016, and average residence over the year has increased to 85. However, if cross-border residents are stripped out of this figure, then there is a 5% fall in the average number of Scottish residents during 2015/16.
